Court Housing
MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING
Court Housing is a layered experience of the courtyard typology, integrating inside-outside relationships into both the private and public zones of a multi-family housing development. Every unit fronts the communal courtyard with a series of covered exterior spaces. Courtyard conditions also define the depth of the interior: a glazed internal void creates a physical yet transparent separation that allows family members to engage in different activities while maintaining visual connections with one another. In addition, the void provides natural light and ventilation throughout each unit. At the intersection of the shared courtyard and internal void, the underbelly serves as entry, porch, and carport. The resultant spatial relationships provide a complexity of indoor and outdoor living spaces for a variety of multi-family housing inhabitants.
